Music and Guitar

Band 15, 25 and 35

Students will learn to play a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument within a wind band ensemble. While developing understandings of rhythm, dynamics and sound production, students will develop an appreciation of a variety of musical genres across time and place. No previous instrumental music experience required.  

Concert Band 10, 20 and 30

Students Seeking a more immersive experience playing in a wind band. This Is a year-round, performance-based course designed for students with prior instrumental  experience, focusing on developing technical skills, musicality and ensemble playing. Through regular rehearsals, sectionals, and individual practice, students will refine their abilitiesin a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, cinematic and contemporary music. 

Instrumental Music 10, 20 and 30

Instrumental Music is a continuation for students whohave taken instrumental music either at junior high school or through private instruction, and is geared to instruments in a wind band (brass, woodwind and percussion). Students will continue to develop technical skills while deepening understanding of how to play within an ensemble. Students will develop an appreciation for music through the study of a variety of music styles and genres.

Guitar 15, 25 and 35

Students will continue to learn guitar techniques,musicianship, making meaning through music  and understanding the theory for individuals and small ensembles. They will explore North American guitar- focused styles of western music, including rock, jazz, blues, country and bluegrass. Guitar is a course where students can engage in self-expression, creativity, collaboration and communication skills.
